I've just received the Christmas cards I ordered online through Rakuten a few minutes ago. I ordered 18 altogether! It's so hard to find greeting cards over here in Japan... I guess it's because I live in the countryside. I have to go to the big cities to get nice ones... and so, the online shopping... I've been recently obsessed with online shopping over here in Japan... hehe.. Japan's postal service is so efficient! I ordered these cards Sunday, paid through the ATM (ofurikomi) -- sort of like a bank transfer, and got the goods today! I love this system!

Well, I guess I have lots of Christmas-card-writing to do! I hope they all make it to Canada before Christmas... but I really doubt it.

These are Japanese style Christmas cards... Aren't they pretty?

 It's kotatsu time again!

A kotatsu is an electrically heated Japanese low table... I've just set it up today... Every single house in Japan has it! There is no central heating in Japan, other than Hokkaido and so, this thing is a must have! I always fall asleep while under it... LOL!

I really love my iBook Graphite... ^_^

12:41 AM

I set up my Christmas tree today... also decorated my apartment with other Christmasy stuff... so happy... but a bit lonely as usual... I just stayed home all Saturday. I will be watching the city's annual 'ekiden', a popular form of passing-the-batton-marathon over here in Japan. I will be cheering for my students in my junior high school.... That's about it for this weekend.

I watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose this afternoon... God, it was scary...

Didn't do much this weekend except for a birthday party I went to Friday night which I got very drunk... Saturday I just watched DVDs with a friend at my place - "Babel" and "Lost in Translation". I've seen these movies before but I just wanted to see them again... Sunday, didn't do anything at all...

This is my desktop wallpaper right now. I actually stole Jack's face somewhere from the web and then just did some photoshop on it to make it cool...^_^

 My New Friend

Meet my new friend... My newly acquired iBook Graphite Clamshell 466 mHz Special Edition...

I bought a second-hand iBook Graphite from Yahoo! Auctions last week and I was very happy about it... but, the screen seems a bit dimmer compared to the iBook Tangerine one I bought a month ago. I bought the graphite for 33,000 yen only! (about 300 CAD). Other than the dim (but not so dim really) screen, everything on this machine is perfect, considering that it's a 7 year old machine! I love it really. It came complete with the original box, original manuals and discs, and AV connectors. It's 466 mHz G3 processor, 320 MB SDRAM, 20 GB HD (not so big! ><)... I re-installed OS Panther on it as I only wanted original softwares installed on it. It didn't come with Mac OS X discs but it was already installed though. I wanted my own copy installed on it. It's so much faster than the tangerine one and as fast as my HD-dead iBook Dual USB, PLUS the graphite one came with a DVD-ROM! My friend S helped me buy it from Yahoo! Auctions as I realized I could not bid for more than 4999 yen at one time! >< I needed to have this account called Yahoo! Wallet to be able to bid more than 4999. It sucked! I've been quite addicted with Yahoo! Auctions recently and so I applied for an E-Bank account. I needed this account as Yahoo! Wallet would not accept my Canadian VISA credit card for identity purposes ><. Oh well!

At first I was OK with the tangerine iBook but then I realized I needed the AV outlet in order to view my Powerpoint presentations on a regular TV screen to show my classes, and so I bought this graphite iBook. In fact, I've just done a Jeopardy quiz show with my students in junior high a few days ago. My students get thrilled everytime we play Jeopardy... LOL. It's funny how they react everytime they see me carrying this quite unique mac, with the handle and all... Yes, it does look like a toilet seat when opened, or a cosmetic purse when being carried, but I like the idea of being different. It's old and rather quite outdated, hardware-wise, however, it's the cutest and the coolest computer I've ever seen and it's a keeper.... I actually prefer the old iBook clamshell models to the new boring white or black only MacBook to be honest with you... but someday, I will have to give this clamshell up in favour of a faster mac... Technology is being developed so fast I can't really keep up with it... but for some reason, I'm really stuck with older technology... If I find something that fits my purpose and aesthetic tastes, I usually stick to it no matter how outdated it is... hehe. That's just me!
