Tracklist
In this episode, I played songs from the 60s that were remade in the 80s and actually outdoing the originals in popularity (maybe?). I unfortunately picked the wrong Laura Branigan song in the beginning of the show. Ha ha. I was supposed to play her "Name Game" (the remake)... but the song I ended up playing ("Self-Control") also happened to be a remake of a 1984 (in same year, just a bit earlier) song recorded by Raf a.k.a. Raffaele Riefoli. On the show I said performed by Giancarlo Bigazzi but actually he was a co-writer of the song. Oops!
Another erratum (OMG): I mentioned that Gloria Jones' version of "Tainted Love" was not the original but in fact, it is the original. The songwriter, Ed Cobb, was from the American group The Four Preps and no, The Four Preps did not have a version of this song. Ooops, again!
My apologies... I actually thought of this "theme" about an hour before my show! But then, most of my episodes are prepped like that anyway. Ha ha. To be honest, I actually like the spontaneity and the surprises because they create a feeling of "an actual LIVE show" and thus, "an actual LIVE mix".
R.I.P. Marie Fredriksson of Roxette. She passed away yesterday at the age of 61. Roxette was a favourite band of mine in my teen years. I remember the time when I would call radio stations to play songs, including famous Roxette songs, and then I would "dub" it on a cassette tape using a cassette recorder, essentially, creating a real mix tape. Yup, that's how kids in the 80s made mix tapes (REAL cassette tapes).
